What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a treatment modality that engages your mind’s natural healing that typically occurs during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. During EMDR sessions, rapid eye movements will be recreated by watching a light on a light bar swiftly move back and forth. The eye movements will last for a short while and then stop. You will then be asked to report back on experiences or changes that have occurred in your experiences during the eye movements. Typically individuals report changes in thoughts, images, feelings, and physical sensations. As this process repeats, the intensity begins to lessen and the memory will become more neutral.
